Ink on Cold press Watercolor Paper
Imagine a portal opens up, leading you to seclusion. Do you take the leap into the lonely abyss? Most people would say "no, we do not want to be alone," but do not skip a beat to pull their phone from their pocket. As we become ever connected in the information age, digital age, age of social media, whatever we choose to call it. The realization that more and more people report feelings of loneliness is hard to understand. At a moment's notice, we can interact with friends, family, and strangers. It (our phone), after all, is always on hand. But psychologists tell us we are lonelier than ever. It would seem we have been lied to. Regardless of where you put yourself in this piece (inside or point of view), you get the sense of loneliness and despair. And yet there is a calm in this image. What is our way out? If being overly connected is the problem, then perhaps embracing solitude is the solution to our loneliness.
